I am so excited for the new school year! Room 109 has been up to a lot the past couple of days. We started get to know you activities! We worked on our "iPhone apps" which gives everyone a quick look at everyone's lives. We even had skittles a little early in the day and played get to know you based on the different colored skittles. I have so enjoyed getting to know everyone in the class!
We made sure that we were organized and got our folders and notebooks labelled. We are ready for all the subjects :) Our iPads have been set up with our Google accounts and even have our Prodigy accounts ready for some fun! This week we got introduced to band instruments and had the opportunity to try them out! It was great to see everyone trying their best and finding an instrument that makes them happy!

Already four weeks of school! I can't believe it!
This was a quick, short week for our students. In the morning, we had been working on our All About Me newspaper. The newspaper gives the student a great way to explain different parts of their life as well as adding their own personal flair! These will be up during Curriculum Night for everyone to see! We finished our first topic of math this week. We worked hard practicing rounding and comparing decimals. We had different center games that were fun and engaging in the topics. I am so proud of how hard the students have been working and I am excited to start adding and subtracting decimals this week. In Literacy Workshop, we have been working on plot diagraming. In plot diagraming, the students are able to see a visual representation of a story. We watched Pixar Short Animated Films in order to use a plot diagram. It was fun watching the different films and discussing how the plot makes the story. We are going to continue working on plot diagrams while writing our own fracture fairy tales! Hello Everyone!
Third week of school, how amazing! In math, we have been rocking through our place values up to the thousandths place. We worked with comparing decimals and rounding decimals. We went through centers on Friday to be sure that we got more practice. I cannot believe our first is coming up on the 8th! In Literacy, we learned about the different elements of fairy tales. We watched movie clips and listened to fairy tale stories to determine these elements. We also learned how to write a RACE writing response. This helps us to cite evidence from the text. We listened to the story Two Bad Ants and determined what ants could think everyday kitchen objects would be. Science was a highlight of all the students this week! We discussed how stages of matter can change. We witnessed this first hand as we performed a melting ice experiment, making the solid back into a liquid. On Friday, we showed the changing states of matter through making ice cream. It was a crazy and messy experiment, but it sure was delicious :) Happy second week of school! Our week was definitely defined by MAP testing. Room 109 had three tests that help us determine the best way to group students during Reading and Math intervention times. Though each test took a long time, the students worked extremely hard and were respectful of each other to finish their tests. I am very proud of how everyone did! On Tuesday, Room 109 was able to try out and decide on any band instrument that they would like to play in band. It was so much fun to see everyone try out the instruments and actually seeing the instruments in real life. Our week seemed to fly by! We were able to dive into Harry Potter and have gotten into Chapter Five. Everyone is super excited to find out what happens to Harry next and I am excited to be able to read it with them! In science, we have been learning about the different states of matter. Together we created visuals to represent the different types as well as acting out the molecules in the different states of matter. Next week, we will be talking about changing states of matter. Lots of experiments are ahead!
-Mrs. Schneider Hello Everyone!
This has been a great first week in room 109! This week, we have grown together as a class and really have gotten to know each other. We have been playing get to know you games where we shared facts about ourselves and "Would You Rather" to get ourselves talking. We had a great first day assembly where we were introduced to our new Eagle mascot. We will be deciding on a name for him or her sometime this week! We also went through the school to go over our norms in the hallway, bathroom, cafeteria, and media center. It was great for all of us to get a reminder of our norms at the start of the school year. As the week went on, we made sure we got ourselves organized for the school year. Our folders and notebooks are labelled and ready to go for all of our classes. We will be working more this week to make sure our Reading Notebook is set and in order. We also had time for some science experiments this week! The students worked in their table groups to Save Fred (a gummy worm) from drowning with only four paper clips! It was great to see everyone working together to get the job done. We also worked on using our senses to identify objects hidden in bags. It has been great to see everyone work together and find their inner scientist! I cannot wait to see what will happen this week, especially with spending time to learn about the solar eclipse happening tomorrow! -Mrs. Schneider |
